Last One for the Holiday Weekend

I finished one more quilt yesterday.  I'm considering my in-home retreat a giant success! I started this quilt when I got to California (the first time) this year. I'd brought multiple projects with me because I knew I had 3 weeks of dedicated sewing time. But are our current projects ever enough? Actually they would have been, but when we got to San Juan Bautista and I saw this quilt on the wall, I had to have it. So here it is - all finished!

This pattern is Red Letter Day by Camille Roskelly. So fun and cute!

Fabulous quilting by the girls at Lynne's. 

Yes, magic binding again, but I used a white flange so it would blend in with the background.

Busy-ness

Updates from the past week.

While attending a quilting retreat at beautiful Camp Blanding, 

I managed to get a lot of piecing done, leaving just the border work needed to get a bunch of projects done.

Special request top for my niece - Jacksonville Jaguars fabric. Ready for the quilters 

Cute little wedgie top sold as soon as I put it on Instagram, so I get to count it as a "finish".

The holiday season! Yay!

In no particular order, here's what I've been doing this holiday season.

This top (Fractured) got finished. It's also already been quilted, so I'll be able to show a finished quilt as soon as I get the binding on.

I put up a Florida wire tree with flamingoes and vintage ornaments (and I gave no idea why this font is red and underlined. It just happened. Computer magic, and I can't change it - at least not on the iPad.)

I made a bunch of stilettos for some sewing peeps I know. (Clueless why this ISNT red! Magic!)

And I finished the last of the pincushions. They were sitting around, stuffed, just waiting to be sewn shut and stacked. All done!

A top finished, another begins

The Fat Quarter Fun top got finished yesterday.

I'm really glad I did the piano key border. There's so much piecing in this one that a plain ol' strip-of-fabric border would have looked rather out of place, I think.

Although I have bindings to do, I started another quilt instead. I've had it cut out for awhile. I made the first block last night to test the process.

It's paper pieced (I copied the pattern onto newsprint - so much easier to work with!), so I always have to retrain myself on how to do the Judy Neimeyer method. I did OK, with just a bit of a goof on that rightmost dark piece, but it's in the seam allowance so it will be forgiven.

I also had to test that light purple piece of fabric.  It's almost like metallic tissue and I was worried it might melt. But it was made for quilters, and it worked just fine.  I knocked the iron temperature down a hair "just in case".  

Thank you, quilting fairies, for batiks! It's really hard to tell if you've reversed a piece. Which of course I did. It will be forgiven in the overall quilt.

A little stitching, a little cutting

Heeeeeeeeyyyyy... What's this yumminess?

The last of the carpet was installed today, so the sewing space was off limits for the majority of the day.  Instead,  I used the time to begin cutting fabrics for more quilts. I'll make two quilts with basically the same fabrics. I've already named them "For Winston Churchill" I and II.  He (Churchill) loved color and said he was "...genuinely sorry for the poor browns."  Not these browns! They are rockin' that color!  I've only gotten a decent start on the cutting; these two will take awhile to pull together. 

Meanwhile, once the sewing space was available to me again, I did a bit more stitching on the Fat Quarter fun project. Here's a sneak peek.

Two rows are a sewn together so far. Onward! This is not a race.

What's Up

Yep, I've been away. No excuses. No fanfare. Just updates.

I made this quilt, which needed 59   2 1/2" strips:

I had strips left over, so made this one, which called for 20 strips. I used one of the Peppered Cottons for the background:

I had two quilts that I had cut out a while ago from this pattern:

I had finished the first top a few weeks ago, and put the second one together tonight. It was already cut so doesn't count against my "no duplicates" challenge.  Here are the tops:

On the design wall, the second one looked better, but looking through the camera's eye, I think the first one works a lot better. Tip if you make this one: use fabrics that mush together rather than having a strong contrast. 

My current project is from the pattern Fat Quarter Fun using 30s fabrics. Forgot to take pics of the in-process blocks so I'll post them next time.  Life is getting back to some sense of routine, so hopefully I'll be posting more often.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
