Design-your-own Blocks Finished

The last of the title blocks - the double-4-patches - are finished. They are soooo pink-and-gray in this pic, but they are purple and pale blue.

Another set of blocks done. Seriously - I need to start putting them together soon.

I've started sewing the Prisma together, but not before making 2 more strata sets (I needed more green). It's fun to be working on a simple project and a complex project at the same time: I don't get bored.

More Blocks, and the World Quilt Show

Whew, what a crazy long weekend! We did an impromptu shop hop. We also included Ikea and Crate & Barrel in our hopping. We wandered the state, changing directions on a whim, deciding where - or even if - to stop for the night towards late afternoon. What fun that was!  My credit card didn't completely melt, but it's looking a little bendy. Pics of the new stuff later.

Here's my progress for yesterday - more blocks for the design-your-own. I used the "wrong" side of the starry fabric on some of the HST blocks. What the heck - I paid for both sides.

The World Quilt Show (West Palm Beach, Florida) was wonderful, as always. Here are a few pics of the quilts that impressed me most. Some of them are for the quilting rather than the quilt. Wow, there was a lot of quilting on some of them!

More blocks and another UFO sneaks into the fray

A few more blocks for the design-your-own quilt got made today.

Also, I started playing with another UFO (Prisma) using strata. I had all the strata made and the blocks cut from them, but I don't like the way it looked on the design wall, so I made more strata.

I'm off to the quilt show in West Palm Beach tomorrow, so the strata will have to wait till next week. (Funny what you see in pictures that you don't see "in the raw"; that light pink strip sorta screams at me. The rust/orange was intentional. I probably could've used another transitional strip from the turquoise to the pale blue. Good lesson: lay out the strips then take a photo before sewing everything together.

It's quite cool this evening. I enjoy it so much, because we get so little cool weather here. I hope your weather is pleasant.

What a (great) day!

I slugged most of the day. (Translation: I didn't go for my walk. Full disclosure: I did 10 miles yesterday afternoon - I can skip a day!) I sewed, watched MSNBC all day for post-election analysis, and pretty much enjoyed not having any more angst about the election.

I'm still sewing blocks - any ol' blocks that have been cut and will need to be sewn.  Here's today's batch:

I'm getting quite a pile of blocks done. One of these days I'll get in the mood to do rows and columns, then Katie bar the door!

We're getting a nice blast of cooler weather. I don't have to totally close the windows yet - but it's definitely cooler. Yay!

A little more done

Accomplishments! After a few boring days and no sewing progress, I got some more done. I've finished all the donation blocks for the 2013 guild quilt.

I finished the last set of blocks for the design-your-own quilt  double 9-patches.

Now all the blocks are made for this one and I can get to the designing part. Here are all the blocks:

The idea is to make a bunch of each, then have fun arranging until you have something you like. Keeping similar (but varied) backgrounds adds more interest to the quilt.

I finished all the little blocks for Safari ...

...and made one big block to show you what they'll look like.

(No, the seams don't match - they're not suppose to.) Can't wait to see what this one will look like when it's all pieced. I think it will need something else - maybe a little applique or embellishment (or both). We'll see! It's really fun to make things that have no predetermination of what they'll look like when they're finished.

Today was sew-in day at the local quilt shop: I was able to finish the borders on the rest of the jelly-roll-race/1600 charity quilts. I'm glad to have them done!

I made it to a Triple D (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives) restaurant last week - Metro Diner here in Jacksonville.  Then there was a show yesterday featuring Zia, in Santa Fe, NM - another one to add to my list! I was there this spring. I'm heading to the Mancuso World Quilt Show in West Palm Beach this weekend and will hopefully hit Havana Hideout and can add that one to my list. It'll be fun to see how many of the places I can add to my list over the next few years.

I tried a new recipe, too - Ann Burrell's Asian pork tenderloin. It's really good. And easy. I recommend giving it a try.

The UFO of the day is ...

... the day. Seriously. It was just a day.

I screwed up my dentist appointment (thought it was at a different time), went grocery shopping, then went to a volunteer function. Just a day. It seems unfinished.
